Through Coalworks' development and exploration coal projects the company aims to supply a long term and profitable supply of coal, whilst conducting operations in an environmentally responsible manner. Coalworks will take all reasonable steps to minimise the impact of activities on the local environment including restoring the land used in our projects.

One of the most significant environmental contributions Coalworks plans to make is the development of a Clean Coal technology plant on its Oaklands site in southern NSW. Coalworks commissioned International Engineers, Uhde Shedden, to conduct a pre feasibility study for the construction of a clean coal plant at Oaklands. Past reports concluded that Oaklands low-sulphur coal is remarkably suitable for gasification where coal is converted to synthetic natural gas (syngas) for power or to upgrade to value added products. Gasification is a key technology for lower emissions coal production because, in converting the coal to syngas, carbon dioxide can be captured in readiness for sequestration.
